Paper making is one of the the Four Great Inventions in ancient China. During the Eastern Han Dynasty, Cai Lun, an eunuch, improved the paper making process, using plant fibers such as bark, hemp head, rags, and old fishing nets as raw materials, greatly improving the quality and accessibility of paper. Cai Lun's papermaking process includes steps such as chopping bamboo and floating in a pond, boiling over low heat, pouring materials into curtains, covering curtains and pressing paper, and roasting over high heat. These steps were widely used in ancient times.
